Somas, most of you would have heard about this dish and few
of you would have tasted it. It’s a dish or traditionally called as palagaram
which is usually prepared during Krishna jayanthi. It’s a favorite dish for
almost all kids who have tasted it. It is prepared using Maida, rava, ghee,
cashew, dry grapes (optional) etc. I still remember sitting with my mother
while preparing somas waiting for the right time to steal one, because my
mother never allows me to have one before presenting it in front of God on the
day of Krishna jayathi . Now let’s take a look at the recipe of Somas
1.
In a bowl mix maida, oil, rava and salt together.
Add water and make a smooth and stiff dough. Cover it with a damp cloth and
leave it for 1 to 1.30 hrs.
2.
Dry roast fried gram slightly. Once it cools,
power it.
3.
Heat ½ teaspoon of ghee and fry the coconut
until the moisture goes and you get ta nice aroma of the fried coconut.
4.
Fry cashew nuts in 1 teaspoon of ghee.
5.
Powder sugar finely along with cardamom
6.
Now mix together coarsely ground fried gram,
coconut, powered sugar and cashew nuts well.
7.
Now take the dough, knead it well and divide it
into equal balls.
8.
Dusting flour, roll out a ball into a small
poori.
9.
Using a lid, press on the rolled dough and
remove the excess dough, you will get a perfect circle
10.
Place 2 – 2 1/2 teaspoon of stuffing in the
middle of the circle.
11.
Now dip your finger in water and apply it on the
edges of a circle, so that the somas will stick well and the stuffing will not
come out while frying.
12.
Now close
it and seal it along the edges.
13.
Heat oil in a kadahi (Frying pan), when oil is
hot reduce the heat drop the somas in the kadahi and fry both sides until it
turns golden.
14.
Once it turns golden take it out and place it in
paper towel to drain excess oil.
Now your somas is ready
